About neXtgen

Who We Are

neXtgen is a ministry for young adults at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas, Texas. We provide an open-minded, exciting alternative to your grandmother’s church tea party or needlepoint guild.

neXtgen was founded by several members of Transfiguration (we call it the Fig) who wanted to provide a way for young adults to feel comfortable at the parish. Today, we are a self-governing group of young adults – mostly in our 20’s and 30’s - who have so much fun with our church friends that make other people ask, “You do what with your church?”

neXtgen members can also be found serving in wide variety of roles at the Fig, including serving on the Vestry, acting as a parish delegate at the Diocesan convention, serving at Sunday services, participating in the music program and Christian education, helping on the annual Habitat for Humanity project, and much more.

What We Do

We organize one large event monthly and meet casually at one of our favorite hangouts about once a month. Most weeks we go to lunch after the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service. One restaurant/bar in Richardson has been known to hand over the remote for the multiple flat screen TVs when we go to watch football on Sunday afternoons!

Past and recurring events/projects include:

  • Commissioning a hymn setting of Lift High the Cross for choir and orchestra from Joel Martinson (www.joelmartinson.com) in celebration of the Fig’s 50th anniversary
  • Creating/sponsoring Transfiguration's now annual Cross & Crown Ball on New Year's Eve (pictures available here)
  • Sponsoring a beer garden and live music at Transfiguration's Fig Fest every September
  • Spirituality on Tap (the name says it all!)
  • Barbecues and pool parties
  • Wine and beer tastings
  • Softball, bowling, and other sports activities
  • Weekly Sunday lunch at a variety of area restaurants
  • Cultural outings and concerts
  • Concerts

Why neXtgen?

Whether you’re new to Dallas, a younger professional, or a recent college graduate, it can be hard to find your own niche in such a big city. It can be even more difficult to find a warm, inviting faith community that attends to your needs. neXtgen can be a great way to get involved in an inspiring faith community or just to make some great friends!

Membership at Transfiguration is not required to attend neXtgen events. We take the parish motto of “Seeking and serving Christ in all persons” very literally.

How to Join

No dues…no fees…just sign up for the email list or come to an event! We know that life for a young adult in a big city can be hectic, so you can come and go as you please. In fact, you can be a permanent resident of Dallas or just a college student home for the Summer. If you’re unable to attend a particular event but are interested in neXtgen, the Fig, or the Episcopal Church, be sure to check back for upcoming events or send us a message. If you'd like to make a suggestion for an event or program, feel free to contact us or visit our discussion forum to let us know.
